FYI we've resolved what's going to happen for Hadoop 2.6 on hadoop native compatibility ( https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-11064)
-the entry points that were deleted will be reinstated and invoke the new method This is what I wanted, its just that nobody wants to set a precedent of keeping the hadoop native libs compatible with hadoop-*.jar forever, as they are tightly coupled.
