Creating a JIRA issue is the right thing to do, attach your patch there and check the "grant permission to Apache for inclusion" checkbox if you agree with that. Having the code there allows us to review the patch. Automated tests (or patches to existing tests) help in deciding to apply the patch ;-) -Bertrand
