The tag is only evaluated in during releases and that mechanism still works
(https://github.com/apache/sling-parent/commit/fb01dc225f9ab081695041d23ab05e5b3efaef2e).
Compare with
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23718601/what-is-the-usage-of-maven-pom-xml-tag-element-inside-of-scm-when-you-are.
Feel free to set it back to "HEAD" in the master branch, but I am not aware of
any implications...
