Great to hear that you got it working! I think we are going to move forward with a fork of the Scala scripting engine in the next couple of weeks to bring it closer to the Scala community.
Regarding caching, there is an SLING-1255 [1] for that. However, the bindings wrapper introduced with SLING-1236 [2] makes caching quite difficult.

I'm trying to work through the Apache Pivot tutorial now using the Sling scala scriptengine so I will see how that goes. I saw a post of your's suggesting making this scriptengine stand alone so other's could use and I highly agree with that. I do notice there is a performance hit so perhaps if clereeza's cacheing mechanism is incorporated it would not be so noticeable.
