Resource Resolver vs Java 17

Hi there,

with the change for https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLING-12606, 
the project now produces artifacts requiring Java 17.

For the time being, I need to work on improvements that have to work in 
Java 11.

As far as I understand, that means I'll need a maintenance branch. Does 
this sound right? Branch name "1.x"?

Once we have that, backporting stuff maybe become hard due to the 
introduction of Spotless 
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLING-12716). So do we backport 
that change as well?
