I was not involved in previous launchpad releases, but that seems like a lot of work. I'm not sure if someone really wants a full source checkout of a given launchpad. For troubleshooting/development I would wager that it's usually enough to checkout a couple of bundles, and that does not warrant the current effort needed to make a launchpad release.
