I reworked the attached patch quite a bit, fixed some issues and simplified the
implementation.
Fixed in [r1769962|https://svn.apache.org/r1769962].
Adjusted referenced versions and configuration PIDs in other modules
[r1769963|https://svn.apache.org/r1769963].
