Changes reverted in [r1785487|https://svn.apache.org/r1785487] by [~olli].
I still believe that the idea has potential, but the crude first draft I
provided had only limited usefulness. Since I currently don't have a need for
it, nor the time to work on it, I am closing this issue with resolution "later".
