Thanks for looking into my initial comments [~skhare]. Please note that we
still need individual issues and commits for each improvement, as I suggested
in my initial comment.
Feel free to reuse the PR, but please force-push it with one commit per issue
and create the corresponding Jira issues for each improvement.
