Hello everyone,

With the Solr 10 branches being created, I wanted to raise awareness and
figure out if we should ship the optional desktop client of the new UI with
Solr 10. If we should do that then we should start figuring things out, so
that it can be shipped in time together with 10.0.

Right now the new UI can be built in two different ways. One way is as a
web-assembly app (static files), which are integrated in the webapp by
default, and the other way is to build the UI as a desktop app (.deb, .msi,
.dmg) for the individual platforms.

I was told a long time ago that we could eventually utilize the nightly
builds to ship intermediate desktop client builds with the latest features
during the experimental phase to gather feedback and let users test the
latest features / builds.

Do we have any similar cases where we build and publish modules aside from
Solr distributions? And are there any other options besides the nightly
builds that could be used for publishing the new UI?

Your input is important here.

Sincerely,
Christos
