I missed something important that was in the title but not the body of this thread, and that changes my response entirely. Our V2 APIs are labelled "experimental" which means we can change anything with them. AFAIK, no particular APIs are labelled differently, it's a blanket label to the whole API until some future Solr release where we remove that label and then care about backwards compatibility.
