In case you don't know, the BMS ("Blacklist Mastering System") is a way to check against many different blacklists without the overhead of DNS lookups.
We normally implement this at the tcpserver or SMTPD layer, however we have had requests about using it at the Spam Assassin Level, instead of traditional DNSRBL style lookups. But, as using it at the Spam Assassin Level is not how we normally implement, and our resources are stretched thin at the moment, if someone wants to take this on for the good of all Spam Assassin Users, by all means contact us. Basically, you trade off 500Mg of harddrive space for very effecient lookups. (.004 secs) Now you can lookup against as many lists as you want, and you don't have to worry about network outtages, DNS Caching, DOS attacks at the blacklist provider or any of that. If there is interest, we can help any party who wishes to try this out. The Client Programs are freely distributable. It can work as a drop in replacement for rblsmptd, or you can use it by calling the 'bmslookup <IP ADDRESS>' directly. For more information, you can check out the homepage at http://www.linuxmagic.com/products/bms, however you will have to excuse that the developers have just uploaded the new site, and are in the process of packaging the system for different OS's.. -- Michael -- -- "Catch the Magic of Linux..." -------------------------------------------------------- Michael Peddemors - Senior Systems Developer LinuxAdministration - Internet Services NetworkServices - Programming - Security Wizard IT Services http://www.wizard.ca Linux Support Specialist - http://www.linuxmagic.com LinuxMagic is a Registered TradeMark of Wizard Tower TechnoServices Ltd. -------------------------------------------------------- (604)589-0037 Beautiful British Columbia, Canada This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to which they are addressed.
