fwiw, I note it now considers it invalid and does not use the setting.
I'd prefer to warn about it, but use it anyway -- as some sickos may have used
it anyway (probably accidentally) since v2.x. it'd be better in those cases to
not suddenly start failing to use their bayes db due to a (relatively minor)
misconfiguration.
