The perl bug mentioned in comment #13 is being tracked at
http://rt.perl.org/rt3/Ticket/Display.html?id=34450

That link requires a free registration login from http://rt.perl.org/perlbug/ if
you don't have one already.

As of right now as I type this the status of the bug there has been changed from
new to open, and it does seem that the submitter has identified the likely line
of code that needs to be changed. What isn't clear there is what the perl code
is that would trigger the bug, making it difficult to come up with workaround
before it is fixed in perl itself, or proving whether it has anything to do with
these SA crashes.
