Because the message: Cannot open /etc/mail/spamassassin/spamc.conf : No such file or directory Looks a lot like the error one would expect from: open(FH, $fh) or die "cannot open $fh : $!"; Either that or change it to something more innocuous like: No /etc/mail/spamassassin/spamc.conf found.
