I'd swear someone from the SA side once mentioned that your results may vary
with metalog (syslog being the preferred mechanism) - not that that seems to be
the problem here. I'm a little at a loss because I can't dup on any of my gentoo
systems, and so far this is our only reported failure at bootup. Feel free to
lob this back at my end of the court if it looks to be a gentoo only problem :)
It strikes me - just because your network device is initialized doesn't mean it
can talk to remote dns servers, just that it has an ip, route, and gateway info.
Could there be some time delay between setting up your eth0 and when your
provider begins responding? Even a few seconds would make a difference here.
