It is probable that there is no Windows machine in existance that can run SA 
and that doesn't support Winsock2.  My vague memory was that the transition 
from Winsock1 to Winsock2 was about the same time as the transition from Win3.1 
to Win95.  While there are assuredly still Win3.1 machines out there, I doubt 
seriously that any of them have to power to run SA.

The transition was certainly at least 10 years ago, since I've been writing 
code that was dependent on Winsock2 for that long, and have never had a 
complaint from a user that he didn't have Winsock2 on the system.

Winsock 2 can assuredly do non-blocking IO of many assorted flavors, some of 
them close to standard.  I would seriously suggest moving the Win 
implementation to Winsock2 and being done with it.
