ok, investigated some more, and fixed some of Colm's issues from comment 14
in r418135. changed:
- use NI_NUMERICSERV to list port numbers instead of names;
- use NI_MAXHOST and NI_MAXSERV where available;
- use getaddrinfo()'s built-in support for resolving the loopback address,
without requiring a resolver.
however the max-hosts issue and the _randomize_hosts() issue are
still outstanding; not biggies though I think.
