I was noticing that my nightly rsync run was complaining that it couldn't resolve "rsync.spamassassin.org". After a little digging, it turns out that all the public servers return SERVFAIL for queries, and then I found aha, the zone information has expired. With the zone machine move recently, the primary/hidden dns server that runs on the SpamAssassin zone changed IP, so all the secondaries lost contact. The main issue is that our updates system went offline (*.updates.spamassassin.org). :(
I've updated the config on my server so at least one of the public machines is serving data again.
