When I do that test with other DNS servers, "apple.com." is the domain and Apple's primary nameserver is the authority. I wonder if there is something funky about the records being retrieved for the query that is confusing SpamAssassin. Are the results consistent when you send your sample message through SpamAssassin? An easy test in that case is to point your machine to a different nameserver long enough to see if that changes the results.
