if you change:
} elsif ($myself =~ /.*$helo$/) {
to
} elsif ($myself =~ /.*\Q$helo\E$/) {
that blocks the danger I think. (\Q, \E inhibit regexp metacharacters.)
taint mode is good for finding this stuff...
