admittedly, i'd not waited beyond ~ 5 mins.
retrying, and keeping an eye on the relevant PID,
% ps -ax | grep -i sa-compile 2.34M 44.6M 85.7M

after 22+ mins, it's still working ...
(fwiw, this is compiling on an 'old workhorse' 500MHz PPC-G3 + 800 MB RAM,
running OSX 10.4.8 ... so, _not_ the quickest box ...)
