fix, including fix for bug 5478, take 3
Sidney -- try this. This adds "255.255.255.255" as a special-case IP address
which will immediately fail, instead of actually attempt to connect. This
should be safe, since that IP is reserved in all BSD socket implementations I
know of to mean INADDR_NONE ("Address indicating an error return").
I also rebuilt the patch against 3.2.x, instead of trunk, since it was no
longer applying to 3.2.x due to changes in other patches being voted on...
