Hi all, I was wondering of any of you ever tried using a PS3 as server for SA and MailScanner , and if so what is the performance like ? This all because I'm considering a setup on Ubuntu there it has full PS3 support.
After some digging around I found a post with some results of "time pi 1000000 >/dev/null" : PS3 : real 0m35.989s user 0m34.605s sys 0m0.353s [EMAIL PROTECTED] GHz real 0m10.616s user 0m10.225s sys 0m0.200s Core [EMAIL PROTECTED] real 0m12.605s user 0m12.525s sys 0m0.080s The explanation of this follows as : There are two reasons for this: firstly, the PS3 has 8 cores on it. one core is a PPC (power pc) and the other 7 are SPEs (synergistic processing element), although only 6 are enabled. The pi program only runs on the PPC core, which is general purpose and not very fast. secondly, the playstation uses a hypervisor (i.e. an emulator) to make sure that you aren't doing anything that you shouldn't (like trying to rip a bluray disc or something). Now i know that Novell (Suse) for example released special kernels for the PS3. I'm wondering if this will solve above described issue. All in all, Just curious about your thoughts and maybe experience in it :D Cheers, Gerard. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Using-a-PlayStation-3-as-Server-for-SA---tf4810569.html#a13763907 Sent from the SpamAssassin - Dev mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
