If this is the result of a bug in specific not-current versions of perl on
specific platforms, I don't think it is a reason to go back to processing
messages by line. How about adding this test case and the perl script from
comment 15, assuming that a segfault can be detected and reported as a test
error instead of crashing the entire make test? That way the error could say
that an upgrade to a newer perl is required.
