What do you think about modifying the release procedure so that the announcement ends up
as a file in http://people.apache.org/~jm/devel/ (or wherever) with a name like
ANNOUNCMENT-3.2.4? That will make checking it for things like this more robust. I could
add steps in my scripts to check that the announced version, hashes, and signatures match
the release.
