Summary: update manpages to warn that the -C command line option
is not normally needed.
Product: Spamassassin
Version: SVN Trunk (Latest Devel Version)
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Over the years I've seen a lot of misuse of the -C option by well meaning new
users who think they need to specify everything (most commonly they use -C
/etc/mail/spamassassin). Of course, this causes the default rules dir to be
over-ridden by the site dir, eliminating the default ruleset completely.
I even recently found this mistake in some wiki articles and a simple google
for "-C /etc/mail/spamassassin" will show how common this mistake is.
We really should clarify the manpages to point out this isn't really necessary,
and should only be used by advanced users.
