Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: critical
Priority: P1
Component: spamc/spamd
AssignedTo: [email protected]

Guys,
I used to be a constant user of Spamassassin. Then I had a problem with an
upgrade. It completely stopped the system working. I logged it here and it was
duly ignored.
So, like everyone else who gets to this situation, I scrapped my Linux box and
rebuild on a new version (in my case Fedora Core 10).
Fedora Core 10 is magic. Spamassassin still doesn't work. I have spent
countless hours trying to find out why spamc works fine with "spamc -R < email"
or "formail -f -ds /usr/bin/spamc < <mailbox>" works fine or spamd is running
fine....but why my bloody email mailbox is totally unchanged !!!!
I have changed procmail, .procmail, .procmailrc, .forward, local.cf,
sendmail.mc, sendmail.cf, procmailrc. I have spent ages on the web searching
for things like "spamassassin runs but I still get spam".
Most of all, you web-site says nothing. No tests, no troubleshooting, just FAQs
that are irrelevant. How about a FAQ:
"Spamassassin is running fine. Why is my mailbox still full of crap? (No header
changes at all)"
or
"I can get spamc -R to find and score email, but the headers aren't changed on
the mailbox?"
or
If you can't do that, just put a simple script in a prominent place that uses
spamc to filter out the crap and I'll run the script out of cron.
If you hadn't gathered, I am VERY frustrated by this software and your
web-site's inability to show how to troubleshoot such an obvious area of
potential problems.
(I should add my mailboxes are in /var/mail, my users are in /home/ and
everything is straight out of the Fedora box. I'm a 10 year Linux user. So, if
it isn't working for me, how many others have this problem? People do not want
to join forums to do things like this...believe me.)
