They are free to host whatever content they want to, so long as it is
not in the same uri space as the mirror content.

Right, but this one is within the same uri space as the mirror content.


I'll defer on 'how appropriate' that is to Gavin and Henk, who manage the mirrors list.

Also, how often do you go to a mirror to browse their site?  I reckon
you just use the most local one to you, as linked from the respective
projects' download site.

We received complaint when people rushed to grab the fresh release of
SpamAssassin 3.3.1, before it propagated to all mirror sites.


Well we cant enforce all mirrors to update that often. However the update should not have been made available/announced until at least 24 hours after the file hit the mirrors. This is to make sure that all the mirror sites are up-to-date before doing this. That was a procedural failing, not anything else.
