IMO if there are lots of bugs waiting on few votes or commits, I'm sure it
would be much more beneficial to check them in first.

And it's not like you are going to get massive participation just by
announcing some "release dates".  Personally I just happened to have some
inspiration and time right now.  Anyways it sounds good just releasing from
trunk regularly, I think we're never going to get a steady stream of
"stable" releases with current developer/pmc resources.
