Since we have both ipv6 and ipv4 mirrors (whether they are multistacked isn't really a concern) this is not a scenario we have considered. If you are on an ipv6 only machine and there are only ipv4 mirrors such as using non-project resources, you are likely out of luck.
with linux kernels ?, there is none yet that can make ipv6 only hosting, all it can do is to not configure ipv4 wan ip, but there is still multistacks
kernel 3.10 is beginning to come into gentoo, so far its still not possible to make ipv6 only with single stack
