It may prove to be irrelevant if Legal says that the Perl Artistic License makes it ok, but I notice that the original version of the code[1] does not have a license specified, and this version is a rewrite by our own Justin Mason[2] who seems to be the person who added the license. It may be possible to see if the code can be released under the Apache License if that simplifies things.
