There's generally more system performance consumed with regexes than there is
from the connection negotiation, unless maybe if somehow you're running an
incredibly barebones ruleset on very small messages. RBL lookups also
contribute to wallclock. The gains you'll get from lower connection overhead
will likely be comparatively very small.

Are you unable to just run more instances? That is often the easiest fix for
unclaimed server resources.
