As KAM has mentioned I've been trying to help go through some of the differences between the 3.4 branch and trunk to help sync them up a little more. Understandably some parts (i.e. IDN) shouldn't be merged back, others are pretty simple (i.e. # use bytes), and others don't belong in either of those pots.

KAM's asked me to send these patches here for extra eyes etc.

The attached patch imports revision 1694122: https://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=1694122

It's related to https://bz.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=7401

Which in turn leads to https://bz.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=7231

TL;DR

Net::DNS changed, a full patch was applied to trunk but a minimal version was applied to 3.4

It's now two years later, this patch brings the full patch to 3.4
