Substantial improvements in rule parsing have been made since this report,
which may have addressed the reporters concerns. It is never wise to run SA
against a ruleset that has not been passed by the SA "lint" process which is
available in many of the tools, including the cited mass-check script. Making a
lint run before processing by default would be overkill. 

The bottom line is: don't use rules with syntax errors and use the '--lint'
option for tools that offer it when running with newly-written rules.
