I made the call to have the speed at the expense of the added dependency. But looking at it more carefully I find that I don't care about saving only up to 15 milliseconds on very large files, or even 150 ms on specially crafted large malicious files, especially at the expense of all the problems that you have pointed out it would cause. +1 to commit patch 6162 for the 4.0.3 release When you commit this, remove the mention of IO::String in INSTALL, UPGRADE, and its installation in .github/actions/install_cpan_dependencies_for_sa/action.yml.
