Hints don't work with {{--update-mode updateonly}} exports. The biggest
downside here is that any hints provided are silently ignored. We should either
# Add support for this (I don't think there's any reason not to do this)
# Add a warning that hints will be ignored during updates (I don't think this
would be a ton simpler than #1)
# Document in the user guide that hints don't work with {{updateonly}} (if
nothing else, we should at least do this -- maybe even do this until #1 is done)
