Veena Basavaraj commented on SQOOP-1804:
----------------------------------------
Well, there are different ways to see things and write things I suppose, the
wiki says that the FROM and TO read and write to the Extractor and Loader
context. So there was never a case of mixing the two things.
I did not see a use case as you stated{quote} TO needing to know about data in
FROM is things like validations - for example, if FROM says "last_value is N"
but TO didn't actually manage to write N, I can see us wanting to allow TO to
update the "last_value" and essentially roll back the job execution.{quote}
if TO did not write N? why would that be the case. The FROM will write what is
the last value it read, the TO will write the value it wrote and more
information as well. They are separate values, each will use their information.
The FROM and TO function independently based on their configs. If that was not
the case we would not have FromConfig and ToConfig even in the job.

> Update: The above highlights the pros and cons of each approach.
> #4 is chosen, since it is less intrusive, more clean and allows U/Edit per
> value in the output easily.
> Will use this ticket for more detailed discussion on storage options for the
> output from connectors
> 1.
> {code}
> // will have FK to submission
> public static final String QUERY_CREATE_TABLE_SQ_JOB_OUTPUT_SUBMISSION =

> At the code level, we will define MOutputType, one of the types can be BLOB
> as well, if a connector decides to store the value as a BLOB
> {code}
> class JobOutput {
> String key;
> Object value;
> MOutputType type;
> }
> {code}
> 3.
> At the repository API, add a new API to get job output for a particular
> submission Id and allow updates on values.
