I am going to comment this one test out. since it is the local time thing and 
it is pain on how to best convert the joda time back to the milliseconds 

the time in sqoop does not have a time zone
and when we convert this object from joda Localtime to millis it looses this 
info:)
sincei n avro we store date / time and date time as long
