My assumption was "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merge_%28SQL%29" is a standard
and we can use that, when I said select and insert / update, that was bare
bones semantic interpretation not a literal one:)
I looked at using merge and it seems to be a standard statement supported in
some:
Database management systems Oracle Database, DB2, Teradata, EXASOL, CUBRID, MS
SQL and Vectorwise support the standard syntax. Some also add non-standard SQL
extensions. So if it is not worth these use cases, I can drop it too. Not a
problem, since the user can use free form sql for such operations.
