The only undefined reference that remains is
relative to basic_ostream (char and wchar).

I don't understand why the linker doesn't
link these routines: perhaps there is a wrong
parameter in config.h routine.

My guess is you're missing some config macros. I don't see
_RWSTD_NO_IMPLICIT_INCLUSION #defined, even though gcc doesn't
support this compilation model. Here's a config.h file for gcc
4.1.1 on Red Hat EL 5.0 (12d):
