Hi Ken, As Kyle pointed out, the heartbeat server is a small component (a daemon) of Apache Storm that has no use outside the context of a Storm deployment. As such I don’t see a large potential for confusion.
Just doing a few google searches turned up the following: The “pacemaker software” top hit is the WikiPedia article on the Linux software, the second hit is the clusterlabs.org website. None of the results in that search reference the Apache Storm pacemaker daemon. A search for “apache pacemaker” yields one hit on the Apache Storm daemon (the same link you referenced). The other hits in that search all reference the Linux software and integration with various Apache projects like Apache HTTP server and Apache Stratos. So it would appear that the primary source for potential confusion among users would be the Apache Storm pacemaker daemon documentation [1]. One simple way to address that would be to add a disambiguation statement to that page (e.g. “this page refers to the Apache storm heartbeat server daemon…”) and include a link to clusterlabs.org. Would doing so address your concerns? If so we’d be happy to make that change. Note that we could certainly change the name by which we refer to Storm’s heartbeat daemon, but we wouldn’t be able to immediately change the use of “pacemaker” in configuration settings and class names since it would introduce backward incompatible changes that would be disruptive for our users. Please let us know how you wish to proceed. -Taylor > On Apr 17, 2017, at 1:27 PM, Kyle Nusbaum <kylejnusb...@gmail.com> wrote: > > +dev > > On Apr 17, 2017 12:13 PM, "Kyle Nusbaum" <kylejnusb...@gmail.com > <mailto:kylejnusb...@gmail.com>> wrote: > Fortunately it's a quite small component of the project, comprising a couple > classes, so I'm in doubt it will cause much confusion.
