I’d encourage committers/developers to review (+/- 1)  this pull request [1], 
since it should allow us to make an Apache release.

It should greatly simplify the build and release process.

I’m pointing it out since it has some ramifications in terms of Storm’s thrift 
API. So I opened a JIRA to track it [2].
