Craig's says that the problem is solved by tight coupling. That also seems to be true.
Look, Jack: we all realize that you don't care for JSF and don't think it should be a fundamental component of anything called Struts. You don't need to toss off responses to every message on every thread on the subject.
Shale will thrive or wither based on whatever community of people it attracts who want to build it and use it. There's plenty of room for it to do that while you merely ignore it. Perhaps instead you could apply positive energy to creating something that serves your needs (and possibly those of others) and leave Shale to do its own thing.

As I understand it, no, they are not tightly coupled. JSF has a configuration. You give a bean a name, and you tell a component to use that named bean.
