>From the example you've given its not even going to validate your form 
properly, let alone use the error styles properly.

For validation to work then the generated field names on your HTML form have to 
match the field names specified in your validation.xml. If you have an input 
field with the name "foo[xx].day" then you need to specify:

<field indexedListProperty="foo" property="day" depends="mask">

in your validation.xml. I think you'll find if you do that then you'll get both 
the validation and the error styles working.
