+1. I coach several struts projects in big companies is germany, and they also all uses 1.1 and there is no way to change to 1.2 or 1.3. So I'm interested in adding new things with backward compatibility! I think the new concepts of 1.3 are good and I will try them out, but in production state - no way.

What I don't understand is if 1.3 is compatible with 1.2 then why are you
happy to move to a new 1.2.x release, but not a new 1.3 release? The only
reason I can think of is if someone has customized the the 1.2
RequestProcessor? What I'm supporting is all running under v1.2 currently
and I'm expecting upgrading to v1.3 to not be a big deal.

Becuase it's not simply about compatibility. Very simply, in many environment, the decision is not in the hands of a guy like me. Yes, I am a senior architect. Yes, I can make any number of decisions myself.

But not all of them.

One of them is that the company will not be on the bleeding edge with
ANYTHING. We will instead be conservative and stick with a known solid
version.

In fact, we are currently using 1.1 in most applications I am aware of. We are still using Websphere 5.0.1. Most desktops are not even upgraded
to IE6.0 yet (actually, that one may not be true, but it was just a few
months ago). You get the point though I'm sure :)

You see, *I* am ready and willing to move to 1.3 the second it comes out. I am not however *able* to do so, not at work at least. This isn't
exactly an unusual mindset in large corporations by the way. Large
corporations tend to be beurocratic and somewhat risk-averse when it comes
to upgrades. At least, that has been my experience.

I would caution anyone (including me!) from assuming their environment is
typical or even the majority (that's not meant as an accusation to anyone,
just a pertinent point).
