I have begun applying your patches locally, and begun the adjustments to the digester process to honor these. I also went further and made every class whose name is "*Config" extend BaseConfig, except for PlugInConfig, which already has a properties object. (If I wanted to think about it a little more, I could probably figure out a way to unify them more, but also, I feel that plugins are more of a corner case, and the PlugInConfig object isn't exposed to much user code the way these other ones are.) Anyway, this is a lot of changed code, so I'm going to try to run locally with it for a while. I will attach a new patch which integrates and obsoletes yours, in hopes that some other folks may be willing to apply it and give it a ride.
