Having given this a little thought, may I suggest the DVCM algorithm be 
changed as follows:

        if (reserved.contains(viewId)) {
            return "_" + viewId;
        } else if (Character.isDigit(viewId.charAt(0))) {
            return "_" + viewId;
        } else {
            return viewId;
        }

Matching the java.lang definition of a digit might be overkill, maybe just 
checking for 0-9 range will be sufficient.
