I noticed this as well. If no one steps up to maintain it, I'm
inclined to remove it
competely. I'd like to minimize the number of example applications
we maintain, and it
seems like any advanced AJAX shopping cart could just as easily be
part of the
showcase app.
I'd suggest we go with
* A collection of independant use-case examples (Showcase)
* A realistic best-practices application (MailReader)
* A no-frills application template (Blank)
I like it. Starter is better suited as a Maven 2 archetype (as is Blank really,
but not everyone uses Maven 2).

And a Portlet example.
Here's some application updates that I would like to do:
* Migrate Showcase to a "Cookbook" format, so people can view the
result and the code online. Add a shopping cart example if we can.
** http://planetstruts.org/struts-cookbook/
* Extend MailReader to include an alternative DAO that can be used
with a SQL DBMS.
* Extend MailReader to utilize other cool extensions, like Spring
WebFlow, Struts Menu, and DisplayTag.
We could also substitute MailReader with another likely application,
with a more room to grow, like Caveat Emptor, if we can get past the
licensing issues.
Though, I'm also working on a port of a working model 1 application to
Struts 2, which we might be able to use as a realistic, best practices
example (in lieu of MailReader).

We're trying to do this one right from the ground-up. Feel free to
jump in and join the fun!
