Has anyone posted a release plan yet? I'd suggest that you go ahead and publish the site to the normal location to make sure that all works, then run through the "release" process without changing the version numbers or doing the tags. See if you can deploy everything to the Maven repo and upload snapshots of the release distributions somewhere for people to examine.
